Working towards a new career just got a whole lot cheaper after Glasgow-based Nailzone won Government funding for students at its city-centre Training Academy.
Nail care is the fastest growing sector of the beauty industry and Nailzone’s Training Academy has established a formidable reputation in the last five years.
Now the Scottish Government has formerly recognised the professionally delivered training provided by Nailzone and students enrolling at its Academy are eligible for funding under the Industry Learning Academy Scotland programme.
The ILA Scotland programme is available to people who are 16 and over and have an annual income of £22,000 or less. It provides up to £500 (depending on your income level) towards the cost of part-time higher education or professional qualification courses and a limit of £200 towards a range of other courses designed to help people learn new skills.
Nailzone offers a variety of training, ranging from evening courses to longer two-day and four-day courses that form part of HNC qualifications. These start from a price of £75 plus VAT.
Karen Kaye, who set up Nailzone in 2000, commented: “Getting support for students from the ILA scheme is fantastic. A lot of the people who come on our courses are young girls looking to get involved in the beauty sector and make a career for themselves. The financial support they can now get from the Scottish Government makes it a lot easier for them to pay for some of the different courses we offer.”
Nailzone has also won recognition as an approved training centre from The Scottish Qualifications Authority and The British Association of Beauty Therapy & Cosmetology, adding further weight to its credentials as one of Scotland’s leading providers of training in this area.
The business has two city-centre branches in Hope Street and Queen Street and a third at the Olympia Arcade in East Kilbride.
The Training Academy is based at the Hope Street branch and headed up by Caroline Gibb, who started with the company as a nail technician in 2001.
She says: “The Training Academy offers young people a chance to get the skills they need when starting out and has also helped older students change careers and move into something new. The funding from the Government will help people overcome any financial obstacles to moving into this type of work and we hope a lot of people will take advantage of it.”
