Creating Lasting Jobs & Businesses

Franchising as an industry is worth £9.65 billion in the UK, and £0.6 billion of this annual turnover is generated in Scotland. There are currently more than 40 franchise brands operating in Scotland, with an estimated 2,000 franchised outlets. The idea behind Scottish Franchise Week (SFW) is to capitalise on the success of franchising and the Scots’ appetite to embrace it as a form of starting and running a business.

SFW comprises a host of events aimed at building awareness of franchising in Scotland. It also includes two franchising awareness seminar in Glasgow and Edinburgh on June 9 and 10, a presence at the Edinburgh Chamber of Commerce Business Breakfast on June 10 and culminates with the BFA-sponsored British Franchise Exhibition at the SECC Glasgow on June 11 and 12.

FGFS Chair Lesley Cartwright said: “Scotland is proving to be a vibrant marketplace for franchising. Against this backdrop of growing potential the BFA established its Franchise Group for Scotland – a group which has set about growing the franchise industry in Scotland.”

Against this backdrop of growing potential the BFA established its FGFS in March 2002 bringing together all the champions for franchising in Scotland and has set about growing the franchise industry in Scotland with an ambitious plan to increase the number of franchise systems by 100 and the number of franchisees by 1,000 within the next five years.
