Barry Clarke, who founded BC Services, comments: "There had been situations where people wanted Brawoliner as an alternative to the polyester lining system, where we would pass the job onto a neighbouring franchisee. More importantly though, it was the awareness that Brawoliner and epoxy resin are more environmentally friendly that made us take up the system."

Brawoliner is a very versatile product and the new smaller unit is ideal for the typical size of job encountered in London, with runs of up to 15 metres or so. It can navigate through bends in 100 and 150 mm diameter pipes which standard lining equipment often cannot do.

Engineers from both franchises made the trip to the Karl Otto Braun research laboratory in Germany where the system was developed, to be trained in operating Brawoliner. A factory tour and explanations of the chemistry which makes the system so adaptable were followed by two days of practical instruction in the workshops. Both companies also conducted trial runs of the system back in the UK to fine tune the mixing and impregnation techniques before carrying out their first full installation.

Barry Clarke continues: "Our first contract employing the Brawoliner was for a private householder whose clay drains had become blocked by tree roots. Although we cut out all of the roots, a polyester liner is not ideal for such situations as there is slight shrinkage which would allow roots room to grow again. With Brawoliner the tree roots will not grow again. Customers are also attracted by the 15 year guarantee."
