Cash Generator
Glasgow
Why I chose franchising
Because of the retail concept and the back up provided by a franchisor, I identified franchising as a safer option to starting my own business.
What I did before taking up a franchise
Before becoming a Cash Generator franchisee I was in the army for 4 years, and then I spent a lengthy 17 years running my own grocery shop.
How I raised the finance
Re-mortgaging my house allowed me to buy my franchise.
The training and support I receive from my franchisor
Initial training was provided on all aspects off the Cash Generator concept, the opportunity to buy goods was sourced by the franchise network and any required help was provided initially and on an on-going basis.
The challenges I have faced
I initially ran the franchise store in Dundee then sold out. The Cash Generator I purchased in Glasgow meant a move to a new city. The store, although trading, was not trading well despite the team I took over being knowledgeable of the business. Funding all the different aspects proved a challenge.
My advice to someone thinking of buying his or her first franchise
Look at all aspects of the franchise you are looking at, ask yourself whether you could do the same by yourself, and weigh up the pros and cons of a successful franchisor behind you.
My plans for the future
I intend to open a second Cash Generator this year and hopefully another next year.
