Starting a new business is never without its risks, however, through careful planning and diligence on behalf of the franchisor, the Signs Express business model is continuing to provide a stable package for new and already established centres. Therefore, it is no surprise that the Signs Express network is continuing to grow its network of over 65 centres with the addition of a centre in Leicester & Loughborough. Signs Express (Leicester & Loughborough), the latest addition to Signs Express, is now open under the ownership & guidance of husband and wife franchisees Martin & Val Duggan. Martin Duggan commented on the decision to move into the signage franchise market: “We’d been thinking for many years of running our own business and working together in the B2B sector, as we both have a commercial background. Somehow, someway we had to look for something that was going to fit both of us and, thankfully, I think we’ve made the best choice possible in the sense that we can both bring something to the business.’’ Martin has over 20 years of sales leadership experience working closely with world class premium consumer brands on a national & international scale. Martin is no stranger to hitting the ground running & developing and implementing business strategies and will be an asset to the largest signs and graphics company in the UK. Val has complimenting skills to bring to the Signs Express network from her years as a commercially astute buyer where she sourced high value commodities from the UK and global suppliers before staying at home to help raise their family. Val continues to explain ‘’A Signs Express franchise stood out from the start. From the Discovery Day onwards, we have only been impressed with the level of expertise, support and training from the Signs Express Support Centre. We benefit daily from their 30 years’ experience, knowledge, support team and most importantly, their reputation’’. With the way the world’s economy has evolved, a franchise has become a significantly more appealing prospect than setting up an independent business. The couple confirmed their reasons for choosing Signs Express as their next business venture: ‘’Before taking the plunge and choosing a Greenfield site, we had the opportunity to visit other franchisee centres. It was great to hear such positive comments from each of the centre owners and left us in no doubt that Signs Express was for us. Although we are all independently owned, it feels that we are part of something much bigger and have been made welcome by the Group.’’ Jonathan Bean, Managing Director of Signs Express is delighted by the addition of the couple Martin & Val joining the ever-expanding network. Jon stated, “Martin & Val both have an impressive mix of professional & personal experiences making them passionate about putting their customers’ needs first. I know they are both excited at the prospect of getting submerged into local businesses in and around Leicester & Loughborough. We are thrilled to welcome them both into our network and are looking forward to working closely with them over the coming months”. The new franchisees confirmed; “signage has become such an integral part of our everyday lives and there is enormous potential for growth. We are able to service almost any signage requirement, providing a fast, reliable and high-quality comprehensive service. Signs Express is such a well-known and respected company, I am very excited about the future”. The Duggan’s have also benefitted from the unique offering Signs Express have for all brand-new centres by investing £30k into the business. But reinvesting their entire franchise fee and adding further investment, Signs Express help new franchisees hit the ground running from day one! As part of the UK and Ireland’s leading signs and graphics company, Signs Express (Leicester & Loughborough) are now open operating from their fully equipped unit in Beaumont Court industrial estate, Loughborough. As a commemoration of International Women’s Day, it’s the perfect time to celebrate our newest female franchisee to the Signs Express network.
Mayura Joshi recently became the Owner of Signs Express (Colchester & Chelmsford), celebrating the opening of her centre at the end of 2018.
Workers in the signage industry are predominantly male, so the introduction of another female business owner to the Signs Express network perfectly complements the 2019 International Women’s Day theme, Balance for Better. Celebrated annually on 8th March and emphasising “collective action and shared responsibility for driving a gender-balanced world”, International Women’s Day celebrates the social, economic, cultural and political achievements of women while also marking a call to action for accelerating gender balance.
Graduating from the Indian Institute of Planning and Management in New Delhi with a Masters degree in Management (the equivalent of a British MBA), Mayura began her career in Business Development for a web solutions firm. This gave rise to an 11-year career in corporate management consulting and in-house project work. Since moving to the UK, Mayura has also worked as a contracted HR Project Manager and run an online retail business at the same time as raising two children.
Ready to take on a new entrepreneurial opportunity, Mayura came to Signs Express excited at the prospect of owning a franchise and being her own boss.
The arrival of the Signs Express centre brings new opportunities for businesses to benefit from the latest innovative signage solutions. Covering Colchester, Chelmsford and the surrounding areas including Clacton, Frinton, Witham, Maldon, Ingatestone and Woodham Ferrers, Mayura and her team offer exceptional services to assist their local businesses.
Speaking of her latest venture, Mayura explained, “I’m incredibly keen to establish the Signs Express brand in Colchester and Chelmsford and deliver the best possible service to our customers. I find it quite amusing when I regularly come across people who are surprised at the fact that not only do I run a signage company but I also do it single-handedly. I genuinely believe that it’s a ‘person’ that gets the job done, it doesn’t matter if you are male or female.”
Managing Director of Signs Express, Jonathan Bean, commented, “I’m so pleased to see more women progressing into what has always been a male-dominated industry. Mayura’s tenacity and eagerness gives me every confidence that she’ll do a fantastic job of leading the franchise in supporting Colchester and Chelmsford’s local businesses with their signage needs. We’re all excited to work with her and her team over the coming months and can’t wait to see the business take off in 2019.”
Mayura’s centre is a fully equipped production facility with a temperature-controlled vehicle bay, offering a full range of signs and graphics solutions including vehicle graphics, illuminated signs, office signs, exhibition displays, window graphics and much more.

To commemorate the First World War Centenary, Signs Express (Central Lancashire) assisted Blackpool Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust in installing a 5:1 replica of the Menin Gate memorial flowered in over 30,000 hand-knitted poppies. Signs Express (Central Lancashire) had already completed smaller projects for the hospital so were thrilled to be commissioned for this outstanding memorial. Using All Print Supplies LG Hausys Interior Film (ML56 Travertine White) paired with Metamark UK Ltd printing vinyl, the Central Lancashire branch was able to transform a beautifully designed MDF structure into the Menin Gate by applying over 90 metres of printed vinyl to represent the red bricks, plaques and decorative features. Despite challenges including all the grain on the stonework having to be applied horizontally which required immense attention to detail, this week-long operation was still a huge success. Matt Rutlidge of Signs Express (Central Lancashire) commented “We’re absolutely over the moon with how this turned out, especially knowing how much it means to everyone involved. Tom Smith and I really enjoyed the challenging installation and hats off to our designer, Tom Van-Boyd who did an excellent job recreating some of the more detailed features of the memorial.” The memorial will be on display for the Remembrance service at Blackpool Victoria Hospital on November 9th between 10am and 12pm. Associate Director of Facilities for the Blackpool Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, Nigel Fort, commended the Central Lancashire branch’s efforts on this project and previous ventures, stating: “I have worked with Signs Express on two prominent projects for the Trust in the last few months and have been delighted with the quality of the finished product, especially as they were both very innovative in nature. This is matched by the professionalism, commitment and passion of everyone in the team who I have dealt with. We will certainly be working with them on a wide range of future initiatives and I would have no hesitation in recommending their services as much for the way in which they conduct themselves as for the high quality of their products and workmanship.” Signs Express (Central Lancashire) has been established for over 20 years and covers areas in and around Preston, Blackpool and Blackburn, providing a comprehensive signs and graphics service to businesses large and small.

Exeter based signs and graphics specialists, Signs Express (Exeter), has been recognised as a finalist in the British Signs & Graphics Association (BSGA) Sign Awards for their Architectural project on behalf of The Leat Student Accommodation. The commission included the provision of both internal and external architectural and wayfinding signage for the bespoke student accommodation which is set in historic buildings and includes the centrepiece, the leat, which dates to the middle ages. It was important that the signage created an industrial heritage feel and this was achieved by using three different metals; Stainless Steel, Corten Steel and aged Verdigris Copper. The prestigious and individually designed accommodation has been complemented by a 10 section multi-layered plaque in the three metals which was mounted using studs to the surface of a very irregular stone wall. Signs Express (Exeter) worked from the client’s initial design concept, specification and designs to translate these into physical designs that could be laser-cut, aged and installed. Nick Baxter-Sibley, co-owner of Signs Express (Exeter) said, “We loved being involved in this project as it enabled us to use creativity in our specification of the signage. We were able to provide a solution which perfectly complements the historic nature of the site and surrounding area and achieves the client’s aspiration and are delighted to receive national recognition for the work.” Internally, vinyl-cut decals for walls and glazing graphics for internal wayfinding, all following the same concept, completed the look. Signs Express (Exeter) were judged against hundreds of entries in the awards, which recognises the very best work completed in the sign industry. The British Sign Award winners will be announced on 8thNovember at a gala lunch in Leicester.
