No time like the present to start a new venture.
The Bolton and Wigan ComputerXplorers franchise is run by Richard and Emily Simcox. From their HQ in Leigh[SP1] [GU2] , they teach students' fun and engaging technology classes every week.
Richard and Emily joined the ComputerXplorers family in 2021, having thought about franchising for a number of years. With friends in the franchising world, it had always been on the radar, but in 2021 they took the leap. With Richard being made redundant from his teaching position at a local school, and franchising offering an opportunity to improve a work-life balance, they decided to start looking into a franchise that would work for them.
One year in, Richard and Emily have experienced rapid growth, overachieving their target turnover and employing 12 people for the holiday camps. They explain why the ComputerXplorers’ franchise works for them...
Richard says, “I’ve worked with schools in Greater Manchester for over 20 years, so when the time came to make a decision to start my own business, I knew teaching would be a key part. Unfortunately for schools, with limited budgets, they can’t deliver the fun, engaging tech lessons and that's where ComputerXplorers comes in. This appealed to me, and along with Emily’s business knowledge, we could drive our own success with the backing of the ComputerXplorers’ network. I’m very much of the opinion you only live once, and there is no time like the present. The leap has paid off and I love it, I wouldn’t ever go back.”
Emily added, “It’s been a speedy change of direction for us. Within three months of enquiring, we were up and running. Then within another eight months we were VAT-registered and in the next few months (15 months from the start) we’ll turnover four times our previous salaries. It’s beyond our expectations. We came into it thinking whatever we do, we need to make a living, live independently and have a fresh career. We’ve done that and then some. With three kids, a business, and a darkening economic outlook, there is always a new challenge but we are constantly learning and we know we have the backing of the franchise every step of the way.”
