From charity to community initiatives, how Blossom franchisees are a force for good in their territories

Blossom Canterbury raise over £1,000 for local charity

Blossom Canterbury recently embarked on a heartwarming journey to support and raise much-needed funds for the local Help For Teagan appeal.

Teagan Appleby, a young girl from Canterbury, has spent her life grappling with Lennox-Gastaut syndrome, an exceptionally severe form of epilepsy, causing her to endure up to 300 seizures daily.

In April 2019, Teagan's life took a remarkable turn when she began using medication not yet available in the UK. This treatment drastically improved Teagan's quality of life, reducing seizures to just a handful a day and enabling her to relearn skills doctors believed she would never regain.

However, this life-changing medication comes at a staggering financial cost. Despite being legal in the UK, the NHS does not prescribe it, leaving Teagan’s parents to shoulder the burden of approximately £2,000 per month for the medication alone, in addition to the costs of necessary equipment.

Teagan’s story deeply touched the hearts of the Canterbury team, inspiring them to make a difference. As well as a prize raffle, in mid-September they organised a Family Fun Day and the support from the local community was nothing short of astounding.

The raffle and Family Fun Day raised over £1,000 for Teagan’s campaign, providing much-needed support to her and her family. The Canterbury team continue to do what they can to raise funds and awareness for this vitally important campaign.

Blossom Harrogate & Ripon partner with local football club’s community programme

In a wonderful gesture of community support, Blossom Harrogate & Ripon has established a partnership with their local League Two football team, Harrogate Town AFC.

The franchise proudly sponsors the Sulphurites’ Talk of the Town initiative, an incredibly worthwhile programme run by the community foundation.

Held three times per week at various venues in Harrogate and across the district, Talk of the Town sessions aim to reduce social isolation and improve physical and mental wellbeing among over-50s.

In an era where social bonds can be strained, Talk of the Town provides a comfortable and safe environment for participants to socialise, reminisce, and engage in various enjoyable activities, including board games and quizzes.

This initiative helps foster connections and supports attendees’ physical and mental health – which is critically important among that age group.
