Former paramedic scoops major business award
A former paramedic who switched from saving lives to improving the quality of life for Newcastle’s busiest homeowners has won a major industry award.
Deborah Hart, owner of Newcastle’s Bright & Beautiful housekeeping and domestic cleaning service, is a recipient of a Great British Franchisee Award – the most prestigious honour in the highly competitive franchise world.
Cramlington-based Deborah launched her business in her garage at home with just two staff but now has 30 employees, five vehicles, and a large unit providing laundry, ironing and premium housekeeping services to customers in a huge territory including Newcastle and parts of North Tyneside and South East Northumberland.
“What a journey we’ve had,” says Deborah, who’s in her ninth year of trading. “Our business has thrived since Covid despite the imprint the pandemic has left and the cost-of-living crisis that quickly followed.
“Without my dedicated and motivated team, my business could not have grown the way it has – and the support I get from the network and head office is unparalleled.
“Cleaners are often viewed as low-paid and unskilled, but we know this is a job that deserves more so we offer them fully-employed roles, paid holidays, pensions and pay above the National Minimum Wage.
“I’m passionate about providing opportunities for parents who struggle to find employment around school hours, so we offer flexible working and a good work-life balance.”
Described as “a true brand ambassador” by the Bright & Beautiful network’s Managing Director, Jo Vorwerg, Deborah led her business to 48% year-on-year growth in 2022.
Her latest award comes on top of being acclaimed as the network’s own Franchisee of the Year.
