Samantha's Cycle to Recovery

inxpress-cycle.jpg

There aren’t many who haven’t been impacted by cancer, whether personally, or watching friends or family battle the disease. Which is why the desire to do something to stamp it out from our world is such a big thing for so many of us. And it’s why, when Samantha Keiley decided to fundraise with an epic bike ride challenge, she wasn’t short of people to join her.

Samantha is an Accounts Assistant, at InXpress’s Head Office in Manchester, where she’s worked for over 13 years. She’s known across the network for her joy of life and can-do attitude, making her well-liked by everyone who meets her. Unfortunately, in 2021, Samantha received the devastating news she had a type of womb cancer and needed to undergo intensive treatment.

Despite this, Samantha maintained a practical and positive outlook, facing the situation head-on as she focused on understanding what would happen next. Although she had the support of her family, friends, and the InXpress head office team, not many others that she worked with even knew what was happening in her private world. Samantha's resilience was commendable.

Samantha finally completed her treatment in May 2022, and returned to work, fully. “On 18th May,” she says, “having completed the last round of chemo, I rang the bell! It was an emotionally proud moment.”

During her cancer journey, Samantha received support from The Christie, which inspired her to pull together a team for an epic bike challenge: riding from Manchester to Blackpool. The team, named "Team Wheel Deal," successfully completed the 61.9-mile ride in July, within 4.5 hours... without any injuries! They raised £5280.00 for The Christie, with a generous £1,000 donation from InXpress Gives Back, and personal support at the finishing line.

"We were aiming for £2,500 so to have smashed it, is brilliant! Thank you to everyone who sponsored, donated, and cheered us on... and for the much-needed drinks at the end, Glenn (Head of the InXpress Gives Back committee and owner of the Blackpool franchise!

Samantha's experience with cancer has put things into perspective for her and her family, making them appreciate the little things in life more than ever before. Her story and desire to make a difference to others living through their own cancer battle, is a testament to her strength, determination, and the value of organisations like The Christie: people who support cancer research and patients for a better tomorrow.
