Happy 1st Birthday ZipYard franchise in Altrincham
On Wednesday 12 September Richard McConnell, owner of the ZipYard, dressed up as Goofy and took to the streets of Altrincham with his team of seamstresses to hand out free sewing kits and cupcakes in celebration of the centre’s first birthday.
Time has flown and former driving instructor Richard can’t believe the centre, which is based in Lloyd Street and offers a fast, top quality garment alteration & repair service, has already been open a year.
Richard said: “It’s been an amazing year and sales have exceeded all our expectations by nearly 70%. The centre has been a huge hit with local people and we’ve taken on four more seamstresses, so we have six in total, to cope with demand. Some customers bring clothes to us every week and the feedback is so positive.”
Claire Westwell, a ZipYard customer described centre as “a much needed addition to Altrincham” and also that “the quality of work and speed of service is fantastic."
Another customer, Nicola Dykeman said of the ZipYard: “A fantastic service with professional and very friendly staff ensure that I return time and time again."
A unique concept, there is nothing comparable to the ZipYard locally and people would have to travel to Manchester city centre to get the same kind of service. Richard says that around 50% of the centre’s workload is repairing existing clothes and the other half is altering new clothes that are too big or too long.
Continued Richard: “Local retailers have also been very supportive so we dropped by to give them some cup cakes and 10% off flyers as a way of saying thank you.”
A keen football fan and Manchester United supporter, Richard says that his highlights of the year include altering clothes (mainly jeans and jackets!) for premiership footballers, including England goalie and Manchester City player Joe Hart.
The ZipYard offers a wide range of alteration and tailoring services, all done on site by trained professionals in a clean, purpose-built environment. From dress re-styling and taking in or letting out to bridal-wear fitting or formal wear alterations, The ZipYard does it all. There is also a 1-hour express service for zips, hems and minor repairs.
