Merry Maids franchise owner Becky Hewitt has been named a winner of the Which Franchise Great British Franchisee Award 2026, recognising 15 years of business growth, strong customer service and commitment to her team and the wider franchise network.

What makes Becky’s story stand out is where it started. Business ownership had never been part of her plan.

Becky Hewitt first joined Merry Maids Sutton Coldfield in 2010 in an administrative role while working part-time in the legal sector. She saw the potential in the business and, despite having no previous experience of business ownership, took the step into franchising in 2011.

Having an established franchise model behind her gave Becky the confidence to take that step: “What gave me confidence was the support that came with the Merry Maids franchise. The brand, systems, marketing support and operational processes gave me a strong foundation to learn from.”

From two cleaners to a team of 15

Over the following 15 years, Becky Hewitt developed the skills to lead and grow the business. Merry Maids Sutton Coldfield went from two cleaners to 15 employees, with turnover reaching £296,000 in 2024/25 and projected to reach £350,000 in 2025/26.

The business has also built a strong local reputation, with a 4.9-star Google rating from 157 reviews and four consecutive Merry Maids Awards of Excellence.

The Great British Franchisee Award judges said:

“Becky is an exceptionally deserving winner of a Great British Franchisee Award, having demonstrated sustained business growth, outstanding customer service and a genuine commitment to developing and supporting her people. Over 15 years with Merry Maids, she has built a thriving and highly respected business, combining strong financial performance with an exceptional team culture and consistently excellent customer feedback.”

Building a business with support behind you

Becky’s journey shows why franchising can be an attractive route into business ownership. You are building a business of your own, but you do not have to develop the brand, systems and processes alone.

Through Merry Maids, Becky has had access to established systems, marketing and operational support while developing her own skills as a business owner. She has also embraced technology introduced across the network, including the Business Management System, online booking, e-commerce and customer app.

Vikki Donnachie, Merry Maids Brand Leader, said:

“Becky is a fantastic example of what can be achieved through hard work, commitment, and fully embracing the Merry Maids business model. She consistently delivers outstanding results, makes excellent use of the marketing and technology support available, and is always willing to help others across the network.

“This award is thoroughly deserved, and we are incredibly proud of everything Becky has achieved. Congratulations, Becky.”

Becky also shares her experience with other franchise owners and supports newer members of the network. Her belief in the model remains strong. She has signed a new five-year franchise agreement as she looks ahead to the next stage of the business.

Could you build your own Merry Maids business?

Becky Hewitt did not start with years of business ownership experience. She started with ambition, an opportunity and an established franchise model behind her.

Fifteen years later, she leads a 15-person team, has built a growing local business and is a Great British Franchisee Award winner.

As Becky Hewitt puts it: “You are in business for yourself, but the right support and model can help you grow much further than you first imagined.”
