From boardrooms to back gardens
With spring just around the corner, one South Glasgow business owner is gearing up for his busiest season yet. Six months after launching his Greensleeves Lawn Care business, local resident Mark Hull is ready to help homeowners across the area get their gardens in shape for the months ahead.
After almost 30 years in the financial sector, Mark swapped boardrooms for back gardens last autumn to start a new chapter – and he hasn’t looked back since. Over the winter months, he’s been getting to know his customers, building up his knowledge and preparing for what promises to be a very busy spring.
“It’s been a brilliant first six months,” said Mark. “Starting in autumn gave me the chance to learn everything properly before the lawns really kicked into action. I’ve spent the winter getting to know the area, building up regular customers and seeing how much of a difference even a few treatments can make. Now, as the weather starts to warm up, I’m ready to take on even more lawns.”
Mark, who lives locally, says the change from his previous career has been “the best decision” he’s made. “After so many years sitting at a desk, it’s great to be out and about meeting people every day. I’m doing around 20,000 steps most days now – a bit different from the 6,000 I used to manage in the office! But it’s so rewarding. Seeing a customer’s lawn transform from patchy to healthy green in a few months is a fantastic feeling.”
Offering professional lawn care treatments including aeration, scarification, weed control and fertilisation, Mark’s business covers South Glasgow and nearby areas. He’s already built a loyal customer base and says one of the best parts of his job is getting to know the people behind the gardens.
“The customers have been amazing,” he said. “I love having a chat on the doorstep – everyone takes such pride in their gardens here. I get to see the same faces regularly, and it’s great watching their lawns improve with each visit. It’s proper, satisfying work.”
As homeowners start thinking about spring clean-ups, Mark says now is the ideal time to give lawns some professional attention. “After winter, lawns need a bit of TLC to bounce back,” he explained. “A few treatments at the start of the season can make a huge difference for the rest of the year – and that’s where we come in.”
