Chris 'Kammy' Kamara backs free initiative to get over 10,000 children active this summer

Chris ‘Kammy’ Kamara surprised pupils at an East London primary school to launch this summer’s Premier Sport ‘Inspire to Engage’ summer programme.

The former footballer and now popular TV personality held an exclusive football training session at Sandringham Primary School in Newham and spoke to the children about the positive impact sport has made on his own life and the important role it can play in staying fit, healthy and happy.

Supported by the Premier Sport Activity Professionals (sports coaches), Chris taught the budding group of young sports men and women a range of football drills including dribbling, ball control and passing.

Following Chris’ playing career with the likes of Portsmouth, Stoke City and Leeds United he went on to manage Stoke City and Bradford City before retirement. He’s now infamous for his punditry on Sky Sports, presenter of Goals on Sunday, and more recently, ITV’s Ninja Warrior. What you might not know is Chris overcame huge adversity to make it into the game he loves following a turbulent upbringing in Middlesbrough.

His mum would plead for money from neighbours in order to provide food for Chris’ family and the being one of the few black families in Middlesbrough he suffered racist abuse at a young age. At the age of just 16 he went onto join the Royal Navy, before signing for Portsmouth Football Club.

He commented: “As a father of two children, I understand how important it is for kids to get out and stay active. Premier Sport’s ‘Inspire to Engage’ holiday courses provide a great opportunity for kids to enjoy a range of sporting activities during the holidays while keeping a smile on their face. The best part is parents can access a full day of free sport for which Premier Sport and Chewits should be applauded.”

Chris formed part of a Premier Sport ‘Inspire to Engage’ holiday course, one of thousands that run daily during school holidays across 41 counties. In support for Premier Sport, Chewits are offering 10,000 free places on Premier Sport’s ‘Inspire to Engage’ holiday time activities this Whitsun and summer holidays. The goal is to provide children with free fun sporting activities, whilst educating them about the importance of exercise as part of a balanced lifestyle.
