Signs Express franchise award winners announced

Signs Express announces the winners of its franchisees’ top projects at this year’s Sign Excellence awards.

The annual Sign Excellence awards held by Signs Express gives all franchisees throughout the UK and Ireland the opportunity to be fully recognised for their individual achievements. With 80 franchises nationwide, competition was tough for the signage specialists and therefore increasingly important that they put forward the very best and most innovative designs and installation projects from over the past year.

The awards which were split into four main categories – Interior, Exterior, Vehicle and Project – were independently judged by British Sign & Graphics Association (BSGA) director David Catanach and Sign Directions’ editor Val Hirst. “We were really impressed by the spread and scope of some of the entries,” said Val, “and particularly by the fact that some of the smaller individual Signs Express centres can obviously compete very effectively against some of the larger sign makers in their areas.”

Signs Express managing director Craig Brown commented on the results: “We really appreciate and value Val and David’s help in judging the awards. It was important for us to have an independent approach to deciding on the winners and it was also a great way to get their views on the work some of our franchisees are producing. We received some really good entries for this year’s awards so we’ve been really pleased with the outcome.”

Celebrating this year’s Best Vehicle Award was Steve McMurray at Signs Express (Falkirk) for his team’s vehicle wrapping skills to create eye-catching vehicle livery for Gemini Supplies. Steve was also celebrating reaching the finals of this year’s BFA Franchisee of the Year awards for increasing the centre’s turnover by 150% since taking over the franchise in 2005.

The Best Interior Sign Award was Martin Prodger at Signs Express (Reading) for his team’s work to install interior individual illuminated 3D letters to back painted glass panels at Harris Systems’ new European HQ. The judges could relate to its complexity and the challenge it would have been to achieve.

The Best Exterior Sign Award went to Ian Charles at Signs Express (Grantham) for the design and build of an exterior totem sign for the Nottingham Regeneration project. The sign was given exceptional praise from the judges being described as their ‘absolute favourite! Attractive, well conceived and totally at home in its surroundings’.

And finally in the Best Project Award category, Jim Gifford at Signs Express (Aberdeen) was recognised for his team’s hard work providing numerous interior and exterior signs for the Trinity Shopping Centre.

Signs Express is the UK and Ireland’s largest signs and graphics franchise providing a complete design, manufacture and fitting service for all forms of signage including interior and exterior signs, vehicle graphics, banners, window graphics and exhibition display products.
