NIC Local targets Scotland for next phase of franchise growth

nic-local-new8.jpg

Leading commercial cleaning and facilities management franchise NIC Local is targeting Scotland for further expansion, with opportunities for ambitious entrepreneurs across Glasgow, Edinburgh, Dundee, Aberdeen, Inverness and Kilmarnock.

NIC Local is looking to strengthen its presence north of the border as it continues to grow its network of management franchisees across the UK.

With particular interest in Glasgow, Edinburgh, Dundee, Aberdeen, Inverness and Kilmarnock, the company is seeking commercially minded individuals who want to build and manage their own scalable business with the backing of an established national brand.

NIC Local has been franchising since 2004 and forms part of NIC Services Group, a family-owned business with more than 50 years' experience in the commercial cleaning and facilities management sector.

Unlike a traditional cleaning franchise, NIC Local operates as a management franchise. Franchisees are responsible for developing their business, winning contracts, recruiting and managing teams and building relationships with clients, rather than carrying out the cleaning themselves.

Phil Harrison, Franchise Development Manager at NIC Local, said:

“Scotland represents a really exciting opportunity for NIC Local and we're keen to speak to ambitious people who want to build a substantial business of their own.

“From Glasgow and Edinburgh through to Dundee, Aberdeen, Inverness and Kilmarnock, there are thriving local economies and thousands of organisations that require reliable, professional cleaning and facilities management services.

“We're not necessarily looking for people with experience in the cleaning industry. We're looking for people with leadership skills, commercial drive and the ambition to build and manage a successful team.

“The advantage of the NIC Local model is that you're building your own business, but you aren't doing it alone. Our franchisees have the systems, expertise, infrastructure and ongoing support of NIC behind them from day one.”

Building a business with recurring revenues

NIC Local franchisees provide commercial cleaning and associated facilities management services to organisations including offices, schools, healthcare providers and retail businesses.

The model is built around securing regular commercial contracts, creating recurring revenues and giving franchisees the opportunity to develop a sizeable management business.

There are also no traditional territory restrictions, giving ambitious franchisees the freedom to pursue opportunities and expand their businesses beyond their immediate area.

NIC Local currently has 25 franchisees across the UK, with 25% of its existing franchisees generating annual turnover of more than £1 million.

Some of the network's highest-performing franchisees have developed businesses generating between £2.5 million and £4 million in annual turnover, demonstrating the potential scale of the model.

Previous results do not, of course, guarantee future performance, but NIC Local believes the experience within its existing network demonstrates what can be achieved by the right franchisee.

Scotland firmly on the growth map

Scotland is now a key focus for NIC Local's franchise recruitment team.

The business is particularly interested in speaking with prospective franchisees in and around Glasgow and Edinburgh, Scotland's two largest cities and major centres for business and employment.

Aberdeen and Dundee are also firmly on the company's expansion map, alongside Inverness, which offers prospective franchisees the opportunity to develop a business serving the Highlands and surrounding areas.

NIC Local is also targeting Kilmarnock, providing an opportunity to develop the brand's presence across Ayrshire and the wider west of Scotland.

Phil added:

“The variety of markets across Scotland is one of the things that makes it particularly attractive to us.

“Edinburgh and Glasgow have enormous commercial markets, while cities such as Aberdeen, Dundee and Inverness offer their own diverse business communities and opportunities.

“Kilmarnock and the wider Ayrshire area is another market where we see considerable potential.

“Most importantly, our franchise model isn't about drawing a small circle on a map and telling somebody they can only operate within it. We want our franchisees to think bigger and build businesses based on their own ambitions.”

National backing, local business ownership

New franchisees receive initial training and ongoing support from NIC Local, including one-to-one mentoring from a dedicated Business Development Manager.

NIC's central team also provides support in areas including administration, invoicing, credit control and compliance, alongside marketing and bid support to help franchisees identify and secure new contracts.

That infrastructure is designed to allow franchise owners to spend more time developing their teams, meeting prospective clients and growing their businesses.

The franchise fee is currently £30,000 plus VAT, with additional working capital required. Funding may also be available subject to individual circumstances and lender approval.

NIC Local is particularly interested in hearing from people with leadership, management, sales, business development or commercial experience. Previous experience within commercial cleaning is not required.

Phil concluded:

“There will be people across Scotland who have spent years building successful careers and are now thinking about what comes next.

“They might be a senior manager who wants to work for themselves, an experienced salesperson who wants to build an asset rather than somebody else's business, or an existing entrepreneur looking to diversify.

“Those are exactly the conversations we'd like to have.

“We believe Scotland has the potential to become an important part of the NIC Local network and we're looking forward to finding the right people to build the brand with us.”
