Plan Burrito sets its sights on the North as it seeks new franchise partners

Plan Burrito is setting its sights on the North as the fast-growing Tex-Mex franchise looks for ambitious new partners to establish the brand across Scotland, North West England and North East England.

The award-winning franchise has identified the three regions as key priorities within its UK growth strategy and is actively seeking entrepreneurs and experienced operators interested in bringing Plan Burrito to new towns and cities.

Having built a growing network of restaurants elsewhere in the country, Plan Burrito believes there is significant untapped potential across northern England and Scotland, where the brand is keen to establish a much stronger presence.

The business is now inviting prospective franchisees across the regions to explore the opportunity, with both single and multi-unit partners forming part of its expansion plans.

Stephen Hopper, Founder and CEO of Plan Burrito, said:

“The North represents a huge opportunity for Plan Burrito and it’s somewhere we’re really keen to grow.

“We want to establish a meaningful presence across Scotland, the North West and the North East, and finding the right franchise partners in those regions is going to be central to making that happen.

“There are some fantastic towns and cities where we believe Plan Burrito could work extremely well. We now want to start conversations with ambitious people who know those markets and can see the opportunity to bring the brand to their area.”

Founded in Loughborough in 2015, Plan Burrito has developed from an independent Mexican street food restaurant into a multi-award-winning franchise brand with a growing footprint across the UK.

Its fast-casual concept centres around freshly prepared, customisable Tex-Mex food including burritos, tacos, quesadillas, loaded nachos and burrito bowls, available for dine-in, takeaway and delivery.

Plan Burrito began franchising in 2022 and has since welcomed a growing number of franchise partners into its network.

The business now sees expanding its geographical reach as an important part of its next stage of development, with Scotland and the North of England offering considerable white space for new franchise territories.

Bringing Plan Burrito to Scotland

Scotland is a particular area of interest for the brand, with Plan Burrito keen to speak to prospective franchisees who could help establish its presence in the country.

Major population centres and strong regional cities provide a range of potential markets for the fast-casual concept, and the business sees scope to develop multiple locations over time.

Stephen said:

“Scotland is a market we’re particularly excited about. We don’t simply want to open one restaurant and say we have arrived; we see the potential to build a genuine presence there.

“That could create an exciting opportunity for the right franchise partner, particularly somebody with the ambition and resources to think beyond a single location.”

Targeting opportunities across the North West and North East

Plan Burrito is also actively targeting further expansion across North West and North East England.

The brand believes the regions’ combination of major cities, university populations, busy town centres and established food and leisure destinations could provide a strong fit for its accessible, fast-casual offer.

Plan Burrito is particularly interested in hearing from people with strong local knowledge who can help identify the best opportunities within their market.

Stephen continued:

“One of the great strengths of franchising is being able to work with people who genuinely understand their area.

“A franchisee based in the North West, North East or Scotland brings local knowledge and connections that are incredibly valuable. We bring the Plan Burrito brand, operating model, experience and support, and together we can identify where the strongest opportunities are.

“We’re not looking for growth for growth’s sake. We want the right people in the right territories who can build successful businesses and represent Plan Burrito brilliantly in their local communities.”

The push northwards also supports Plan Burrito’s wider focus on strengthening its franchise network with partners who have the potential to become multi-unit operators.

While opportunities remain for ambitious entrepreneurs looking to open their first franchise, Plan Burrito is particularly keen to speak to prospective partners who could ultimately develop several restaurants within a region.

Stephen added:

“We see enormous potential for Plan Burrito across the UK, and our goal is to build a network that can capitalise on that opportunity over the long term.

“For somebody who wants to build a substantial business rather than simply operate a single restaurant, joining us in a region where there is still significant territory available can be a very exciting proposition.

“We want partners who share our ambition. Whether that’s somebody bringing Plan Burrito to Scotland, establishing us in a new part of the North West or helping us grow across the North East, we’re ready to have those conversations.”

Plan Burrito provides franchise partners with initial training and ongoing operational support, helping franchisees through the process of establishing and running their restaurants.

With substantial territory still available across its priority northern regions, the business is now calling on prospective franchisees to get in touch and explore becoming part of the Plan Burrito network.
