From finance to franchise homecare with purpose

When Babita Lochab (Bee), Franchise Partner at GoodOaks Homecare South Warwickshire, left behind a career in finance to launch her own homecare business, she wasn’t just looking for a career change, she was searching for purpose.

“I’ve been in finance pretty much all my working life,” Bee explains. “Banking and corporate roles were my world. Care was never something I had considered.”

Like many people exploring franchising, Bee and her husband had already been thinking about building a business of their own. But it was a personal experience that ultimately shaped their direction.

“When my father-in-law became unwell, we saw the full spectrum of care. Some carers made a real difference, while others were simply there to do a job. That contrast really stayed with me.”

It was a turning point that led Bee to explore franchise homecare opportunities, combining business ownership with the chance to make a meaningful impact.

Why GoodOaks Homecare?

Before choosing GoodOaks, Bee explored several other care franchises but quickly realised she wanted something more values-led.

“We looked at a few care franchises and they felt very sales driven. It didn’t feel like people were at the heart of it.”

Her experience with GoodOaks was different from the beginning.

“From the very first conversation, it was personable. They genuinely cared about who they were bringing into the business, not just the financial side.”

That alignment of values gave Bee the confidence to take the leap into franchising.

“It just felt like the right place to build something. The passion I felt was matched.”

Building a business with support

Launching a business in a completely new industry could have been daunting, but Bee says the training and ongoing support gave her the confidence to succeed.

“The onboarding was seamless. The training was intense, but in a good way. It never felt overwhelming and it gave me the confidence to get started.”

Coming from a strong business background, Bee was able to combine her commercial experience with the care expertise and operational support provided by GoodOaks.

“I had the business experience, and GoodOaks gave me the care knowledge and structure to bring it all together.”

She also highlights the ongoing support from the wider network and National Office team.

“Everyone is approachable. Whether it’s the National Office team or the Founders, you can always pick up the phone. You never feel like you’re on your own.”

Building a purpose-led team

Now running her South Warwickshire franchise, Bee is focused on delivering high-quality, person-centred care while building a compassionate team around her.

“It’s not about growing quickly. For me, it’s about quality. That’s what will set us apart.”

Bee credits much of the business’s early success to the people around her, particularly Registered Manager Annette Dixon.

“Hiring Annette was the best decision I’ve made. She’s been incredible, and having the right people around you makes all the difference.”

One client interaction, in particular, reinforced why she chose this path.

“We had a client who was very anxious and had spoken to several care companies. She chose us because we took the time to listen and made her feel at ease. She even waited for us. That meant everything.”

Women in franchising

Bee’s story reflects a growing trend of women using franchising as a route into business ownership, particularly at life stages where flexibility and support matter most.

“I had just had my third child and was coming out of maternity leave. I needed something that gave me purpose while still being there for my family.”

Her message to other women considering franchising is simple:

“Don’t be afraid to take that leap. You’re part of something bigger, you’ve got the support, the tools and the model. You can do it.”

What success means to Bee

For Bee, success goes beyond business growth.

“We went through those final moments with my father-in-law, and we saw how much it mattered for him to be at home surrounded by family.”

She pauses before adding:

“That’s all he wanted.”

It is that memory that continues to drive her every day.

“If I can help more people have that, to be at home, comfortable, with the people they love in those moments, then I’ve done what I set out to do.”
