YouMeSushi is Healthy Franchise Choice

Kinga's journey as a YouMeSushi franchisee for Brighton and Worthing is an inspiring story of career transition, growth, and success.  She and her husband both came from backgrounds in the food industry - her husband started out in kitchen work, then went on to run his own business.  Kinga worked in an office before she re-focused into casual dining, eventually becoming a retail store manager.  After many successful years, they both decided take on a new challenge.

It took some research to find the right opportunity, and one that didn’t work out.  This was a big financial set back but the determined couple pressed on and looked at other possibilities.

Kinga explains: “We were not in a position to give up.  We were approaching our 40s and were keen to achieve not only a healthier work life balance but to invest in a healthy business option too.  We knew we loved sushi, so explored all the options.

“YouMeSushi easily stood out as the best on the market  The Japanese cuisine was fresh and fabulous.  We visited several stores and also loved the brand’s style and image which was really appealing.  Meeting with the management team was a breath of fresh air, they were incredibly supportive.  We also felt the size of the company would suit us.  It was certainly not a startup, having been established since 2008, yet it was not such a big company that we would become just a number on a spreadsheet.  YouMeSushi was also expanding and this offered opportunities to add more stores as we grew, which was exciting.”

Kinga opened the Brighton YouMeSushi store in November 2023, and it quickly exceeded all expectations becoming one of the top-performing locations in terms of sales.  Just six months later, she expanded into Worthing.  Between Kinga and her husband and with the support of their long-time area manager Sam plus their extended team, they now run four successful YouMeSushi stores.

Kinga credits much of their success to effective staff training, particularly in customer service.  She says: “My favourite part of working in the business is training, so I manage this for all of our front of staff, ensuring everyone has the right skills to make our customers feel welcome.  Having a well-trained team means we can maintain high standards and delegate running of day-to-day operations to much of an extent.  With a family at home this is important!”

Kinga also values the opportunity to support other women in their careers, with 30% of her staff being female, and offering promotion opportunities as the business grows.  She confirms: “As we develop our franchised business, there will be even more chances for promotion and this is motivating for staff.  One of the things we really liked about the culture at YouMeSushi is that team members are supported in their career progression and many have gone onto become managers and some even franchisees themselves.”

The couple’s background in business, along with YouMeSushi's strong brand and excellent support from the corporate team, have been key to their success.  Kinga is committed to further expansion and sees the franchise's growth as both a lucky and strategically timed opportunity.  She's excited for the future and remains determined to continue growing with YouMeSushi, leveraging their experience to seize new opportunities.

Kinga confirms:  “We love YouMeSushi.  The brand has been designed well and the customers love the menu selection and the delicious, fresh food.  We now aim to open as many YouMeSushi stores as we can, operationally and financially.  Not everything in our careers has always gone to plan over the years, but we have ensured resilience and determination have always won through.  It takes these kinds of experiences to recognise and seize good opportunities when they become available.  That’s what we’ve found in YouMeSushi and we are now excited about a healthy future with this growing brand.”
