Turning skills into scalable success

When Chris and Diane Eales relocated from South Africa to the UK, they were determined to create something of their own. Combining their professional expertise – Chris as an architect and Diane as a cosmetic chemist and marketing specialist – they launched their My Property Pros (MPP) franchise in Barnet & South Herts in May 2021, turning a bold move into a thriving, family-run business.

“When we first looked at starting a business, we knew we needed the backing of a franchise. We didn’t fully understand the statutory environment to go it alone, so having the support of experienced partners was crucial. From the moment we connected with Karen and Dave, we could see the strength of the services sector – it was the solid foundation we needed to build our business,” said Chris.

“We wanted a business that people would always need, no matter the economy. Homes and businesses always require maintenance – windows need cleaning, roofs and gutters need care, and properties need to look their best year-round. At the time, it felt like a gamble, but one we knew was worth taking. We’d both gained experience running different businesses before, so we had the skills, but this opportunity just felt right. When we saw the MPP advert on a Sunday morning and got a call the very next day, it all clicked – it felt like it was meant to be,” added Diane.

Founded in 1996, My Property Pros is the UK’s first and only national exterior property cleaning franchise. Having identified and leveraged a gap in the market close to three decades ago, the brand is now firmly established as a highly profitable, award-winning, multi-van franchise opportunity. Franchisees benefit from cutting-edge technology, proprietary software systems and a team that’s absolutely dedicated to their success.??

Getting started was daunting, particularly with Chris initially launching the business on his own. However, with the support of founders Karen and Dave Prewer and their tried-and-tested marketing approach, he was able to build a customer base quickly. Their guidance proved invaluable in those early days. A year later, Diane joined the business, bringing her marketing expertise and introducing new growth strategies through social media. Together, the franchisor’s support and the couple’s combined efforts created a strong foundation for the business to thrive.

“The support from head office has been phenomenal. In the early stages, it was exactly what we needed – guidance with marketing, sales, and encouragement to keep going. It really felt like having our own cheerleaders,” explained Chris.

MPP franchisees operate from fully equipped, eye-catching vans – the ultimate advert on wheels! A range of complementary, in-demand services?mean franchisees can work year-round and cross-sell with ease?– from roof and render cleaning to gutter clearing and maintenance, jet washing and window cleaning. Thanks to state-of-the-art technology, almost all cleaning is completed with both feet firmly on the ground! As for your dreams... the sky’s the limit!?

The business has truly become a family affair. Chris and Diane have grown to a three-van operation, expanding into multiple territories and taking on Barnet after the first year and a half. Their team includes both of their sons – one works as a pilot but remains actively involved in the business, and the youngest working full time alongside them.

Chris and Diane also employ a dedicated team member who has been with them for over a year. With plans to hire again and grow the fleet even further, the family is building a business that’s both professional and deeply personal.

“Over the next year, our focus will be on optimising territories, hiring another team member, and continuing to grow our operation. I’m also keen to step back a little from the day-to-day running of the business so I can focus more on managing things behind the scenes and planning for the future,” added Chris.

“The business has given us the opportunity to build something of our own, but having come to a new country, it’s been really special to meet so many people locally and build friendships along the way – like with Zara and James from East Herts. That community connection has made the journey even more rewarding,” said Diane.

For anyone thinking about becoming a franchisee, here’s some advice from a couple who have been through the process firsthand: “Our advice is simple: be prepared to work hard, but know it’s incredibly rewarding. Make sure you know your numbers, set clear expectations and take full advantage of the support from head office. The potential here is huge, and if you’re willing to put in the work, it’s absolutely worth it.”
