A New Challenge for Vince
Vince Botham, Antal Franchisee
Born and educated in Essex, I moved to South Africa where I
resided for 21 years. Engineer by profession, I rose to be Managing Director
of various companies in South Africa in a 12 year period and most recently
Managing Director of Alcoa Extruded Products UK for the last 8 years.
Disillusioned with the inefficiency of corporate culture, I decided on a
total change of career. Whilst pondering the future, Antal came into the
picture and offered a chance to start a new challenge and still use much of
the experienced gained over the past many years.
I can empathise with manufacturing management in today's world where
people skills and availability is a problem managers deal with on a daily
basis. Having seen the best that the executive recruitment world had to
offer from behind the desk, I am impressed with what we can offer from Antal
as a global recruitment company. Antal provides solutions not just giving
CV's to a manager whose time is at a premium. Antal takes the hard work
out of executive recruitment and aims to have an exact fit of a new recruit
into the company so that from day one all the team works together.
At Antal I spend a day in the workplace to ensure we are looking for the
right candidates and then we carry out a behavioural profile to ensure the
personality of the candidate is in line with the team he/she will work
with. If someone had offered that to me as MD of past companies I would
have jumped at it. This is what attracted me to Antal.
From an excellent secure salary the future now depends on myself and that
is the biggest change. There is no longer a secure 9-hour daily job with a
salary at the end of the month irrespective of what you do - it is now down
to me.
Best piece of advice to a budding entrepreneur - think very carefully about
the commitment required. The hours are long, everything is new and
sitting on the other side of the desk is not easy. However if you have a
solution to offer clients the outcome can be very rewarding.
