Harry Ramsden's goes back to its roots with launch of new Harry's Hut concept

Harry Ramsden’s has unveiled Harry’s Hut, a new compact restaurant format inspired by the humble beginnings of one of Britain’s most iconic fish and chips brands.

The first Harry’s Hut has opened at The Tower Hotel on St Katharine’s Way, close to Tower Bridge, placing the brand at the heart of one of London’s best-known visitor destinations.

The new concept takes inspiration from Harry Ramsden’s origins in Guiseley, West Yorkshire, where founder Harry Ramsden began serving fish and chips from a 10ft wooden hut in 1928.

Almost a century later, Harry’s Hut brings that story full circle, reimagining the simplicity of the original format for modern, high-footfall locations.

The opening represents another milestone in Harry Ramsden’s growth strategy, strengthening its presence in London while introducing a flexible format that has the potential to support further expansion in the UK and internationally.

James Fleming, CEO of Harry Ramsden’s Group, said: “London is an important market for Harry Ramsden’s, offering both significant growth potential and exceptional visibility for the brand. Tower Bridge is recognised around the world, making this a fantastic location from which to build our presence in the capital.

“Harry’s Hut is particularly special because it connects where we are going as a business with where the Harry Ramsden’s story began. We’ve taken the spirit of that original wooden hut and created a compact, contemporary format that can work in a variety of locations and for different customer occasions.

“That flexibility will become increasingly important as we continue to grow, while ensuring the quality, heritage and experience people associate with Harry Ramsden’s remain at the heart of the brand.”

The Tower Bridge opening builds on Harry Ramsden’s growing presence in the capital, joining its Notting Hill restaurant on Pembridge Road, which opened under the Harry Ramsden’s name following the conversion of a former Deep Blue restaurant.

The launch of Harry’s Hut also demonstrates how the near century-old brand is evolving its estate to suit a broader range of locations. Its smaller footprint creates opportunities in busy city-centre and visitor destinations where a traditional full-size restaurant may not be suitable, while retaining the familiarity and heritage of the Harry Ramsden’s name.

With its prominent location attracting both Londoners and international visitors, Harry’s Hut at Tower Bridge will also provide a highly visible showcase for the brand as Harry Ramsden’s pursues further growth at home and overseas.

The new format forms part of a wider period of development for Harry Ramsden’s, focused on taking the heritage of the brand and adapting it for the next generation of customers and locations.
