A resilient, professional model in an exciting and in-demand market place

spa810-news.jpg

It wasn’t in the business plan.  Written in late-2017, there wasn’t the need to include how to deal with the effects of an international pandemic.  The UK hadn’t suffered from one for decades and very, very few people knew then what COVID-19 even was.

Fast-forward to Spring 2021 and, having lost 63% of trading days over a 12 month period, Duncan & Tania Berry have certainly been able to demonstrate just how resilient their spa810 model is as they plan to re-open following the third national lockdown.

In between the times of having to temporarily close, the pent-up demand was tangible.  “September & October 2020 saw us achieve 86% & 94% respectively of our monthly target….that we set at the end of 2019 - pre-Covid!  October was our record month since launching” explains Duncan Berry who along with Tania launched their master franchise of the US-based brand in the UK in February 2019.

Having re-opened on APR 12 and losing 30% of our available trading days for the month, the business still managed to set a monthly revenue record of £40k!  Achieved in 17 trading days.  To put that into some context, the previous record was £38k achieved in 27 trading days!

The business is also currently running at just over £37k for projected revenue for MAY which is fantastic!  Perhaps that’s not suprising when our fat-freezing treatment, CoolSculpting, gives such tremendous results as seen from one client’s journey below:

spa810 treatment

spa810 provides female and male customers with best-in-class treatments and an elevated experience in a convenient retail location. Massages, facials and skincare treatments are offered using market-leading, FDA approved technologies administered by professionals. Included in spa810’s suite of medical technologies are state-of-the-art lasers for hair removal and non-surgical fat reduction equipment.

To date, the multi-million pound med-spa market has largely been served by practioner or doctor-led clinics.  An opportunity now exists with spa810 to bring either a management or owner/operator type franchise model to this market to meet the growing demand.  In wanting to be accessibly located, spa810 provides a consistent high quality brand to the sector that benefits from delivering high-end treatments, excellent staff training and investment in quality equipment.  spa810 is truly unique!

Operating in an in-demand marketplace and offering results-driven face and body treatments, it was evident even prior to the first lockdown that there was a demand for spa810’s treatments.  By achieving a gross turnover in their first year of trading of £290k, there was proof of concept.  By adapting the messaging to their client base as lockdowns persisted of highlighting the benefits of self-care and taking the time to look after their own needs, resonated with many existing clients but also saw new clients keen to invest in their own well-being.

Harrogate, North Yorkshire, with its 75,000 or so population provided a strong demographic marketplace to launch the pilot.

Following the learnings which come with operating a pilot site, the model for new franchisees is in place.

Excitingly, work with spa810’s first franchisee is underway with site selection and fit-out plans being reviewed.  With a number of other interested prospects in the pipeline, the appeal of operating and owning your own business in this robust and in-demand sector is clearly growing.

We’re really looking forward to talking to more prospects about how we can support them into this sector and realise their goal of perhaps owning a busines they may well have been a client of previously, adds Tania.
