Boparan Restaurant Group (BRG) confirms it has signed its first partner as the Group seeks to accelerate the growth of “better chicken” brand, Slim Chickens.
BRG has entered into a franchise development agreement with JRK Restaurants which will allow the new partners to open initially five outlets across the South Coast, over the next four years. JRK are established, London based businessmen who already have interests within the food and hospitality franchise sectors and have joined forces specifically to partner with BRG on the Slim Chickens brand.
BRG has already proven the UK’s appetite for the concept with seven successful openings in London, Birmingham, Bristol, Cardiff and Kent in just two years and Judd Williams, BRG’s Franchise Director notes; “We are delighted to partner with JRK in what is a significant move for everyone associated with the Slim Chickens brand. As a result of this new signing, we have taken the first steps in our ambitious sub-franchise plans to fast track the roll out of Slim Chickens and introduce the brand to more towns and cities across the UK.”
Karim Kassam, Chairman of JRK comments; “Slim Chickens is undoubtedly one of the most exciting brands in this country and we are pleased to partner with BRG to increase Slim’s presence across the UK. We already have a site in mind for the opening of the first franchised Slim Chickens outlet and expect to make an announcement within the next couple of weeks.”
In a move designed to accelerate the growth of its hugely popular Slim Chickens brand, Boparan Restaurant Group (BRG) is set to enter into talks with potential partners, in order to more quickly increase the brand’s presence across the UK and Ireland.
With stores already trading above expectations in London, Cardiff, Bristol and Birmingham and a seventh opening next month in Bluewater, BRG’s confidence that the UK was ready for Slim Chickens appears to have been well founded.
Laurie Mcilwee, Chairman of BRG notes; “Since signing the Master Franchise for the UK and Ireland, we have successfully launched six stores and all of them are trading beyond even our own expectations. Based on this success and how the UK has embraced Slim’s as a brand they love, we are very ambitious about its future growth potential. We therefore see partnering with individuals or consortia of investors as the ideal way to accelerate the roll out of a highly profitable, uncomplicated brand.”
Potential partners will quickly discover that simplicity is indeed the key to the brand’s popularity. The concept came about one night in 2003 because of founders Greg Smart and Tom Gordon's simple craving for a quick, quality meal. The Slim Chickens' menu is simple to execute and leans on a simple list of high-quality ingredients using house recipes, crafted by founders Tom and Greg. Trained Team Members use a decade-old process to marinade and lock in moisture and every meal is cooked to order, ensuring mouth-watering flavour in every bite. The menu itself offers a feast of options including chicken tenders, wings, sandwiches and salads as well as a host of quintessentially American sides, like mac and cheese, fried pickles and hand-spun shakes.
Judd Williams, BRG’s Franchise Director adds; “There is no doubt that the momentum behind Slim’s is rapidly gathering pace as we’ve proven both the concept itself and the opportunity for fast-casual, better chicken in the UK market. Slim Chickens offers a differentiated brand in an exciting segment, attractive unit level economics, an exceptional support system, streamlined operations and an unmatched training program. We therefore look forward to commencing discussions on exciting multi-unit opportunities with the right partners.”
Boparan Restaurant Group (BRG) kicks off 2020 with news that its seventh Slim Chickens site will open in Kent next month (February 2020).
The American fast-casual concept which specialises in premium, cooked to order chicken, will open its next UK site in the popular Bluewater Shopping and Leisure destination, bringing an authentic taste of Arkansas, USA and its renowned Southern US hospitality to the south east of England. This first new opening of 2020 comes just two years after the brand’s successful UK launch in London’s James Street. Since then, demand has been such that two further London sites have opened in Brunswick Centre and Soho, and Slim Chickens’ restaurants are now firmly established in Cardiff, Bristol and Birmingham.
This latest opening is also confirmation of BRG’s ambitious plans for Slim Chickens, with more new restaurants planned to open in key UK cities throughout 2020. Richard Pigott, Head of Operations at Slim Chickens notes; “We continue to have a fantastic response to Slim’s in the locations we have opened so far and the number of “Slimthusiasts” is growing rapidly across the UK and in keeping with all of our other outlets, our most recently opened restaurant in Bristol is already performing way ahead of our expectations. We are really looking forward to further extending our special brand of chicken into the South East and into Bluewater Shopping Centre.”
With its fresh, cooked to order premium chicken, Slim Chickens Bluewater is sure to be a hit with chicken lovers across the region. The menu will feature the brand’s most iconic dishes including, hand-breaded, buttermilk marinated chicken tenders. A whopping selection of 13 house dipping sauces will also be available, from Korean BBQ and Garlic & Parmesan to Blue Cheese and Mango Habanero. To top it off, guests will also be able to choose from a selection of five signature sides including Fried Pickles and Mac & Cheese and treat themselves to one of the awesome hand spun shakes.
Slim Chickens is scheduled to open in Bluewater in late February.
