Dream Doors Franchisee Jerry Innesbeer Reflects on 9 Years of Business Success

When Jerry Innesbeer was made redundant from his career in banking, he found himself facing a decision that would ultimately change the course of his working life.

After years in the corporate world, Jerry realised he wanted more control over his future.

“I felt like I was just a number,” he recalls. “Being made redundant made me stop and think about what I really wanted from my career. I decided I wanted to build something for myself.”

Determined to explore his options, Jerry began researching franchising and attended a franchise exhibition at Birmingham’s NEC. While he spoke to many different franchise brands throughout the day, one stood out from the crowd.

“Dream Doors immediately caught my attention,” says Jerry. “I loved the concept of transforming kitchens rather than ripping them out and starting again. It was a smart, sustainable approach and something I could really believe in.”

Equally important was the people behind the brand.

“The team were fantastic. They were genuine, supportive and professional, and I could see myself fitting in with the culture. By the end of the day, Dream Doors was the clear choice for me.”

Nine years later, Jerry is still at the helm of his Dream Doors Doncaster franchise and has built a thriving business serving homeowners across the region.

His journey, however, has not been without its challenges.

“It’s definitely been a rollercoaster,” he says. “Like every business owner, I’ve had to navigate some difficult times.”

During his nine years in business, Jerry successfully steered his franchise through the disruption caused by the COVID-19 pandemic and various economic challenges. He also faced a significant personal setback when he was involved in a road traffic accident that left him unable to work for several months.

“It was a difficult period because the business still needed to operate while I was recovering,” he explains. “But that’s where the support network within Dream Doors really came into its own.”

Jerry credits the Dream Doors Head Office team for helping him overcome obstacles and continue moving the business forward.

“The support from Head Office has been invaluable. Whenever I’ve needed advice, guidance or assistance, they’ve been there. Having that backing gives you confidence and allows you to focus on growing the business.”

In recent years, that determination and support have paid off, with Jerry successfully building a strong local reputation and a profitable business.

For Jerry, one of the biggest advantages of franchising is the balance it offers between independence and support.

“I love being my own boss and making the decisions,” he says. “You get to call the shots and build something that’s yours, but you’re not doing it alone. You have the backing of an established brand, proven systems and a support team behind you. It removes a lot of the risks that come with starting a business completely from scratch.”

Now having reached retirement age, Jerry has no plans to slow down just yet.

“I’m enjoying it too much to stop,” he laughs. “I still have the drive and ambition to keep growing the business. My goal is to continue building something really strong over the next few years so that when I do decide to retire, I’ll have a successful business that I can sell on and be proud of.”

Looking back on nearly a decade with Dream Doors, Jerry remains confident he made the right decision all those years ago at the NEC.

“Choosing Dream Doors was one of the best decisions I’ve ever made. It’s given me independence, opportunities and a business I’m genuinely proud of. I’m excited to see what the next few years will bring.”
