For over 20 years, whichfranchise has promoted ethical franchise opportunities in the UK, including franchises that are members of the British Franchise Association. We believe in giving prospective franchises the best franchise advice and access to franchise opportunities of all types and investment levels.
Multi-unit franchising allows franchisees to open more than one franchise within the same franchise network.
Most franchisors will allow you to open one franchise initially, with the opportunity to expand and open several if you are successful with your first one. Many van franchises start off as a single van operation, but as the business grows, they will be giving the opportunity to put more vans on the road. As their business develops further, they may take a step back from the day to day running to oversee the management of it.
Other franchisors will tell you from the start that they are only looking for franchisees that are willing to run a multi-unit operation e.g. a lot of food franchises such as Dominos and Papa John’s only recruit franchisees with the experience and financial capabilities to own and run multiple stores. These multi-unit franchisees will hire managers to oversee the day-to-day running of each franchise store, whilst they focus on managing the overall operation.
In the recent bfa/NatWest 2018 survey, it stated that multi-unit franchise ownership is on the rise. From when the report started recording the number of multi-unit franchisees in 2013, the number has grown from 25% then to 29% in 2015 and to 36% in 2018.
