Belvoir announces winner of The Great Belvoir Bake Off!
Julie Wilson, financial controller at Belvoir Central Office in Grantham has been crowned the winner of The Great Belvoir Bake Off, a competition that raised over £200 for a popular local hospice.
“I was very proud and shocked to win!” said Julie. “I’m not an experienced baker at all, but I happened to have the TV on over Christmas and saw Mary Berry doing her white chocolate and ginger cheesecake and when I heard about the Belvoir Bake Off I thought I would give it a go. The cake was delicious and really easy to do – if I can do it, anybody can!”
Julie’s festive masterpiece beat off some stiff competition, as many members of the Central Office franchise support team entered the Bake Off, bringing in cakes that they had baked and decorated at home. Staff were invited to sample all the entries, which were then sold or auctioned for charity and an anonymous vote was taken to decide who would be declared the champion Belvoir Baker.
“Many of our franchises raise funds for local charities and at Central Office we wanted to do something fun that would support the St. Barnabas Lincolnshire Hospice, which is a very deserving cause that provides a great service for patients and families,” said Kiara Carthy-Barke, Belvoir’s marketing manager.
“We were absolutely delighted with the number of entries we received – and how amazingly creative and talented the staff were. It was a fantastic event and next year we hope to encourage as many offices as possible to take part. There were some amazing cakes to choose from, but after all the votes were counted and verified there was no doubt that Julie’s cake was the favourite and she is a very worthy winner!”
