Recycling boss who wasted no time in changing industries wins major award

07-September-2023

Tripling turnover in five years is a pretty good sign for any business – and that’s helped Nottinghamshire entrepreneur Paul Glover win a major industry award.

Paul, who owns Beeston-based Signs Express Nottingham, has landed a great British Franchisee Award, the most prestigious honour in the franchise sector.

“He’s among some of the most financially successful franchisees in the whole of the Signs Express network”, says Emma Wakefield, the national Head of Franchise Recruitment.

“Paul has a big focus on his team and staff retention and firmly believes your team need to be on the journey with you in order to succeed.

“He puts a lot of time into his staff’s wellbeing and includes them in decision-making and regular business updates.

“Paul also supports his fellow franchisees at events and on social media and spends valuable time talking them through the process, the ups and downs and the journey he’s been on.”

“I’m absolutely thrilled to have won this important award,” says Paul, who’s doubled the number of staff in his time in charge and buys locally whenever possible.

“The business was trading profitably before I bought it, but introducing new practices, procedures and refocussing our business aims enabled us to increase profitability and turnover.

“I previously owned a waste management and recycling company which grew to be one of the region’s largest independent operators, but the signs and graphics market is very different, and I’ve had to understand and adapt to the huge spectrum of customers and business types.

“We have to gain their trust as we advise on the most effective signage, and in many cases customers need us to offer advice and steer them in the right direction.

“Forming partnerships with other similar businesses has proved successful, and we intend to explore this further.

“I try to ensure we not only work hard but enjoy what we do, and all feel a sense of achievement at the end of every day. We work in a relaxed environment which I feel gets the best results.”
