My Window Cleaner offers Josh the opportunity to build a multi-van operation

Josh El-Gueddari is the My Window Cleaner franchisee for his local area Bournemouth.  Josh had a career in sales as an Office Manager, as well as being a qualified electrician and plumber, before using personal savings to buy his own My Window Cleaner business in November 2018.

My Window Cleaner is a window cleaning business (both residential and commercial) which has been operating for over 23 years. The company headquarters are in London but in the past couple of years they have branched out as a franchise to provide their service to different areas of the UK.

We spoke to Josh about why he decided to join My Window Cleaner.

“I knew I wanted to run my own business but starting from scratch would be incredibly difficult, not to mention very costly. So, I investigated franchises that would support me and provide the tools needed to become successful. I am an active person, so window cleaning stood out for me. After meeting with the Franchise Director for a face-to-face chat and also communicating with the Directors of the business regularly, I felt that I would be fully supported on this journey so I made the choice to become a franchisee of My Window Cleaner.

The team are highly experienced and provide me support in many different areas, including business modelling and a territory dedicated marketing plan.

I also love that the company has developed software which makes my business into a highly scalable, multi-van opportunity.”

Like with any good franchise, training and support is key to franchisee success and My Window Cleaner is no different.

“The head office team spent a week with me in my territory and a week in the classroom going through all the aspects of the business. I also had regular training sessions via telephone and conference calls prior to starting my business.

In addition, I worked alongside window cleaners in London to learn how to use the equipment and provide the service at a local level. I had support with using the system and if I ever need assistance, I can speak to one of the Directors or our Customer Care Team. I also had one to one training in Health & Safety, IT, marketing and business planning.”

So, what about the challenges, we asked Josh if there has been any hurdles he has had to overcome.

“Fitting in both the physical work as well as the administration was particularly challenging at first.  I’m now in a position where I can pass the admin work to my partner.  I have also taken on my first member of staff that helps with the day-to-day running of the business.”

Josh’s advice for those looking to buy a franchise is “Don’t under-estimate how hard it can be. Becoming a franchisee made me realise just how much hard work you have to put in to becoming successful.”

“And research every aspect of the franchise business to ensure it is the right franchise for you.”

“A positive mind-set, hard work and dedication make for a successful franchisee; even when you are having a bad day or week.”

Josh is loving being a My Window Cleaner franchisee and is excited about the future. “I am hoping to grow the franchise in my area and eventually have teams of window cleaners working for me. I have already employed a window cleaner, so this plan is looking more and more achievable by the day.”

And would you do anything differently? “If I had more funds behind me when I started I could have employed someone sooner and grown the business quicker but this year is looking really positive and I look forward to seeing what it brings.”
