Belvoir expands into Orkney Islands

Amjed Rasul, owner of Belvoir Inverness, has announced the expansion of his business through the acquisition of Orkney Leasing. The acquisition has added 200 properties to Amjed’s portfolio of managed properties and was partially funded through Belvoir’s innovative expansion policy, which partially funds acquisition opportunities for franchise owners.

“This was a unique opportunity, which is located in the commercial centre of Orkney in the town of Kirkwall,” says Amjed, who joined Belvoir after the launch of his Inverness office in 2007.

“Orkney is a place that is very dear to me, and I always dreamed that one day I would end up here, although I could never have predicted how it would happen!

“Orkney Leasing is a well-established business that was started 15 years ago by a local lady called Mhairi Noble. Mhairi has very high standards of practice and customer service, and was keen to find a buyer with a similar business ethos. The acquisition proved to be a very good fit, as Belvoir operates to similar high standards with a consistent focus on customer care.

“There are excellent air connections from Inverness to Kirkwall, and I can commute here within an hour, so I am looking forward to getting to know existing and new clients. The three full time office staff at Orkney Leasings have been retained and so the transition period for clients should be seamless, however landlords and tenants will now be able to enjoy many new benefits.

For example, the business is now affiliated to regulated bodies including the Association of Residential Letting Agents and The Property Ombudsman. We will also be implementing new software and technology to help streamline systems and improve customer service. In addition, clients can be reassured that the business is regulated and audited by Belvoir’s Central Office to ensure client service standards are continually met.

“The support I received from Belvoir Central Office has been outstanding. Everyone, including the management team, acquisition team and the auditors were fantastic. I must also thank my team in Inverness, who helped make this possible, and our new colleagues in Orkney, who have been very supportive of the changes. I am now looking forward to taking this acquisition forward, and growing the business into an even more successful venture that will serve the people of Orkney. I will also continue to look for further acquisition opportunities in the future.”

Speaking of the acquisition, Belvoir’s Managing Director, Dorian Gonsalves said: “I am delighted for Amjed. It is superb that after building a successful letting business in Inverness with a strong client base and fantastic reputation, he has taken the bold move to acquire a business in Kirkwall, which covers all of the Orkney islands.

“Our dream is for Belvoir to offer a lettings service to landlords in all parts of the UK and this really is pushing the boundaries even further!”
