A week to raise awareness of the Scottish franchising potential
The franchising industry is stopping by Scotland this summer from the 16th to the 20th May for the eighth Scottish Franchise Week (SFW). Organised by the British Franchise Association (bfa) and its Scottish Forum, and supported by whichfranchise.com and Lloyds TSB, the event aims to raise awareness of ethical franchising and its role in business and job creation in Scotland.
The bfa is convinced of the Scottish potential for franchising and hopes to help Scotland to realise it fully. There are already nearly 500 different franchise brands (accounting for over 2,000 individual franchisees) operating in Scotland. In fact, the Scottish franchise market is in constant expansion and, according to the bfa/NatWest Franchise Survey 2010, it accounts for 6% of the UK franchise units. Following their tag line ‘Creating Lasting Jobs and Businesses in Scotland’, the bfa and its Scottish Forum want to bring 1000 new franchised units in the next five years.
The Scottish Franchise Week will be rich in events and initiatives turned towards the potential of franchising in Scotland and the possibilities for future franchisees and anyone interested in becoming their own boss.
As for the other editions of the SFW, the Scottish Business Breakfast will be the highlight of this year’s week. With over 250 attendees including business experts, politicians, media personalities as well as franchisees and franchisors, the event is the ultimate networking opportunity and provides a great platform to businesses from all over the country to discover more about the power of franchising. Once again, it will be held at the Hilton Glasgow Hotel, on Wednesday 18th May 2011.
The SFW is not just about work, there is some fun planned too such as the Golf Day at the Westerwood Hotel and Golf Resort, Cumbernauld, on Tuesday 17th May, followed by a social evening at Hummingbird in Glasgow.
There will also be some free seminars, such as the bfa Specialist Seminar focusing on ‘Maximising your network performance and profitability’ (Wednesday 18th May, Harper Macleod, Glasgow), or the Prospective Franchisor Seminar (Thursday 19th May) and the Prospective Franchisee Seminar (Friday 20th May), free respectively for businesses and people based in Scotland.
