Ovenu Celebrate a Year of Hot Trading
A Berwick entrepreneur has cleaned an average of two ovens a day to bring to a close a successful first year of trading.
James Oliver set up in business last year to operate Ovenu's professional oven valeting service in Berwick upon Tweed after spending more years than he likes to remember working in the transport industry. Now he's hoping to capitalise on the success of the business and hopes to take on more staff.
The innovative valeting process used by Ovenu is unusual because it involves dismantling key components of an oven (door, interior panels, fan and shelves) and placing them in to design-registered equipment that uses non-caustic products to clean the oven parts. The whole process takes around three hours and leaves the oven, hob and exterior in immaculate condition.
Last year, Ovenu commissioned a survey which revealed that cleaning the oven is Britain’s most hated household chore. Sixty percent of people surveyed said that cleaning the oven was their worst chore - second only to scrubbing the toilet!
James says: "I've had a great first year of trading and even people who were initially sceptical have been impressed with the service. Now that the business is established I will look to expand and maybe even transform it into a multi-van operation."
"I've thoroughly enjoyed my first year in what is an unusual but potentially lucrative industry. People have told me that they just don't have time to carry out mundane tasks like cleaning the oven."
"Being my own boss was key to becoming an Ovenu franchisee and I haven't looked back since. I spent many working in the transport industry and was just eager to set out on my own."
"I've been surprised at home dirty ovens can get and I one oven really surprised me, it hadn’t been cleaned for 14 years. I couldn’t believe it, but after a lot of elbow grease I got it looking fantastic, I just hope he doesn’t wait another 14 years to call me back!"
