Card Connection's New Collection is Sales Success

Leading greeting card publisher and franchisor, Card Connection, has confirmed its major new range of greeting cards, launched in April this year, is already a significant sales success. More than a year in development, 122 new designs were created by Card Connection’s dedicated in-house design department to make up the new collection. The goal was to introduce a new ‘boutique card shop’ look to the convenience sector for the first time through the Company’s network of almost 70 franchisees across the UK.

“The collection has been our biggest product launch for a number of years,” confirms Michael Johnson, managing director, Card Connection. “The roll-out of phase-one to our key national account retailers is now complete and has met with approval. Early reports indicate the new cards are flying off the shelves!

“One motorway service station I visited recently sold three designs while I was waiting to be served and that was before 8am!” continues Johnson. “We are delighted with the interest from retailers and customers alike and our franchisees are already reporting similar sales success. We plan to roll-the collection out more widely to additional retailers including selected independents stores soon.”

Brian Spilman, Card Connection franchisee for Leeds, explains: “The new collection certainly has a more sophisticated feel. The cards are subtle and create an artisan card shop look with multi-finishes such as embossed foil, UV varnish plus other highlights along with colour-coordinated envelopes to perfect the package. Together, they create a stunning display and I am really starting to notice an increase in sales from the retailers stocking the collection.

Although Card Connection’s new range is aimed at the more discerning customer, Spilman confirms: “We are still taking care of our traditional ‘distress purchase’ customers too with our original set of designs. The new range is not aimed at the same market and as a result, is only being made available to carefully selected outlets with the aim of appealing to new customers and growing our customer base through increased sales. So far it’s working!”

Card Connection which is this year is celebrating 25 years as a franchisor, is part of UK Greetings, which is a subsidiary of American Greetings Inc., one of the largest greetings card publishers in the world. Since the franchise network in the UK and Ireland is complete, the available opportunities for franchisees joining the network now consist of acquiring an already-established territory from an existing franchisee. These vary in price according to their level of development, but start at £12,5k + Stock + Card Connection fee with earnings potential in excess of £50k per annum.

Territories currently available include: Fife, Edinburgh/Scottish Borders, Stirling, Brighton, Plymouth, Bath, Cardiff, Liverpool and Macclesfield.
