ZipYard franchise in Altrincham Named Retailer of the Year
Clothing alterations and tailoring centre, The ZipYard Altrincham, have recently added another accolade to their list of achievements after being named Retailer of the Year at the Sale and Altrincham Chamber of Commerce Business Awards.
The glittering awards ceremony took place at the Cresta Court Hotel in Manchester. Now in its third year, the awards are a celebration of local businesses who have achieved excellence in their category.
Richard McConnell, owner of The ZipYards in Lloyd Street Altrincham said: “I was overwhelmed to win this. When we opened in 2011 we started out with just one member of staff and two seamstresses. Since then, George Osborne opened my second ZipYard centre in Wilmslow and I now employ twelve seamstresses and four sales staff across both stores.“I’m excited to see what lies ahead because I believe in my business, employ brilliant people and am not afraid of hard work. The fact that we have seen tremendous growth is testament to the strength and loyalty of my wonderful team without whom I wouldn’t have won this award.”
Richard has previously won the coveted Sale and Altrincham Chamber of Commerce 'Start-up of the Year' award and was awarded second place in both ‘Business of the Year’ and ‘Young Entrepreneur of the Year’ categories in 2012. On top of that, Richard was recently named as a finalist in the British Franchise Association (BFA) franchisee of the year awards in the customer service category. So it’s no wonder that the ZipYard Altrincham is also the top performing ZipYard in the UK.
Today the business has over 12,000 customers and has almost doubled its turnover. So much so that The ZipYard is on track to reach its target of a £500,000 turnover by the end of this year.
Richard gave up his job as a driving instructor to set up the alterations and repair centre whose customers include Joe Hart, Marouane Fellaini and several of the cast members from Coronation Street.
