Revive franchise managing director's 'S' Day

In addition to remembering the heroism of the allied forces in Normandy, Revive! managing director Mark Llewellyn has another special reason to mark 6 June 2014.

Twenty years ago the former semi-professional rugby player set up his first SMART repair business in Rugby working out of a Peugeot van with a mis-match of equipment adapted from other industries to carry out the ‘newfangled’ technique.

Then he was using air brushes from the world of graphic design, weighing scales from laboratories and adapted bodyshop equipment, because the method was too niche for manufacturers to create the bespoke solutions that are available to professional SMART repairers today.

The business was part of a Canadian company but Mark led a management buy-out ten years ago when his bank manager Terry Mullen left the world of banking to be part of Revive! UK.

“Because it was the fiftieth anniversary of D-Day when I started my own business it’s always an easy date to remember. The years have gone by very quickly and it’s hard to believe it is now 20 years ago.

“The industry has come a long way in that time. The most important difference is the specialist equipment that is now made especially for cosmetic smart repair because manufacturers now recognise what a huge and thriving industry SMART has become.

It’s is now far more professional – Revive! has worked with like minded organisations alongside the IMI to drive up standards and introduce new qualifications. It’s not surprising that cosmetic smart repair is now a very established and respected method of repairing minor damage to car bodywork and alloy wheels.”

Added Terry Mullen: “It was a big step for me to leave the security of the bank to help set up Revive! But as the businesses bank manager I could see how well they were doing and was impressed with Mark’s drive and determination. Since then I haven’t looked back and am proud to be part of the development of this great company.”

Today Revive! has the largest UK network of accredited repairs with over a 100 technicians on the road. It employs 28 people at its two offices in Rugby and has its own IMI approved training academy.
