OPC welcome new franchisees and help existing franchisees

The Original Poster Company (OPC) is delighted to announce the addition of two new franchisee couples to its UK and Irish franchise networks who are off to a flying start with their greeting card franchises.

OPC has also helped another existing franchisee couple realise their dream of working together in their franchise. David Matthews was a deputy head teacher and took retirement 2 years ago. He wanted to continue working but wanted to do something completely different and challenging where he could be his own boss so he purchased the Swansea franchise and started to develop the area. His partner, Michelle Smith, a class teacher, then also took early retirement wanting to be more in control of her future and when they realised they wanted to work together in the franchise, David sold his Swansea franchise to the Glyn and Maureen Richards and purchased the Cardiff franchise, a much larger one for him and Michelle to develop together.

Glyn and Maureen Richards, who purchased David’s Swansea franchise, explain how they decided on a greeting card franchise and on OPC in particular:

“We initially looked at various franchise opportunities that fitted alongside our current areas of experience and narrowed them down to 2 franchises. One was an OPC resale and therefore an existing business and the other was a start-up opportunity. After further research, we felt that the OPC option had a greater potential for expansion and would enable us to work as a team, applying and benefiting from our combined expertise.”

OPC is the world’s leading greeting card distribution franchise, operating in a UK industry worth over £1.4 billion. Established in 1991, OPC’s franchise network has had complete UK coverage for over 20 years and is a full member of the British Franchise Association. Some of OPC’s UK franchisees are currently selling their existing territories as they retire or move on to new business opportunities so when the Harrow franchise became available, Paul Hodgkinson and Ione Brown jumped at the opportunity.

Paul and Ione had wanted to start their own business, one which could fit into their lifestyle. In particular, they wanted a franchise rather than ‘going it alone’ because of the back-up, support and reassurance from a franchisor. Ione says, “I love greetings cards and chose OPC because of the product and the quality. I have been in sales most of my working life and am looking forward to selling something I believe in – and of course, improving the sales!”
