Hear real life franchisee stories at EventCity, Manchester exhibition

whichfranchise is delighted to once again be sponsoring the ‘Real Franchise Stories’ panels, the next of which is at the British Franchise Exhibition in EventCity, Manchester on 20th and 21st of June 2014.

At whichfranchise we are passionate about helping you to decide if franchising is right for you, so what better way to do this than hearing first-hand from real-life franchisees about their journey into franchising.

What is it really like to run a franchise? Has it changed their lives for the better? What might they have done differently with hind sight? Come along to the franchisee panels on each day of the exhibition and hear the answers to these and many other questions, as well as having the opportunity to pose your questions to franchisees from businesses including: Expense Reduction Analysts, Driver HireAuditel, Mr Electric, and Home Instead

If you would like to submit a question to our franchisee panel via Twitter, please use the hashtag #wfpanel and follow us here –twitter.com/whichfranchise

Franchisee biographies:

James Little - Home Instead Senior Care

James Little opened the Kirklees office of Home Instead Senior Care in 2011, as one of the company’s youngest franchisees. James has always wanted his vocation to allow him to cultivate strong relationships with people in the communities around Kirklees. He saw an opportunity with Home Instead to develop a strong business based on an established model, with advice and support from a franchise company which now has over 150 franchise offices in the UK. James is proud to head-up the Kirklees office of Home Instead and is passionate about providing personal, high-quality and flexible care for people living in the area.

He has wide-ranging trading experience and a good insight of derivative products, hedging risk, regulatory, and settlements issues. Andy also previously spent 3 years running a security business. Since joining ERA nearly 2 years ago, Andy has utilised his experience to focus his new business on client acquisition, banking and finance.

Mike Andrews – Auditel
Before becoming an Auditel Consultant in 2005, Mike worked for a large construction company in a number of key roles. Since then, he has built on the experiences he developed to deliver significant savings and a valuable management resource to organisations across many sectors, including the hotel and leisure industry, the commercial property and serviced offices industry and the IT industry. He initially joined Auditel to develop a better work/life balance for the future and the income goals were somewhat secondary, that being said, he set some pretty ambitious targets, which have predominantly been achieved. Mike was awarded the Commercial Achievement Award at last year’s Auditel Conference and renewed his franchise agreement in 2010.

Michael Connaughton – Driver Hire

Michael, together with his wife Nicol, purchased Driver Hire’s Stockport franchise as a resale in 2008. As this was a totally new direction for Michael, he researched his options very thoroughly before setting on Driver Hire.

Purchasing an established business appealed, and undeterred by the credit crunch and tough economy at the time. Michael set about developing the business in his own calm, measured style.

The overall result for Michael and Nicol was a ‘Newcomer of the Year’ award, and annual sales of more than £1m reached within three years.

Jeff Longley - Mr Electric

Jeff was born in Mitcham in Surrey and left school at 15 with no qualifications. He joined an engineering company for the next five years, however he faced redundancy and also saw no future in that sector. Jeff wanted to go into business with his son Dominic and bought a Rainbow International franchise, a Dwyer Group franchise in Tamworth. Jeff and Dominic added the Mr. Electric business in 2008, operating in the North Birmingham territory. The business has grown, according to Jeff, “from £80,000 to over £750,000 in 2013. The goal for 2014 is £1million turnover operating from 12 vans.” Jeff, a veteran of four franchise businesses, has a few suggestions for those new to franchising. “Look at both yourself and the franchise, don’t be carried away by the romance of being self-employed and all the clichés”.
