TaxAssist Accountants: Accounting for lean times

In a recent survey carried out by LV, you might be interested to learn that being an Accountant came out as “Officially the ‘best’ job in the world!” They found that in these lean times “having a ‘sexy’ job that’s exciting falls by the wayside in comparison to security, salary and benefits.”

Although here at TaxAssist Accountants we would of course agree with the outcome of this survey, and that the profession does indeed offer these benefits, we would like to think that our mould breaking franchise can debunk some of the myths about accountancy and provide an element of ‘sexy’ career choice too!

We know that typically when people consider the profession of ‘Accountant’ what probably springs to mind is boring and traditional, stuck behind the locked doors of a brass plaqued office. However, at TaxAssist Accountants we know that things don’t have to be like this.

Formed in 1995, TaxAssist Accountants is the largest UK-wide network to provide a full accountancy and tax service specifically for small businesses. Through franchising we knew we could maximise growth potential to the mutual advantage of both TaxAssist Accountants and our Franchisees. Franchising helps to minimise the risks and pitfalls usually associated with business start-ups, by providing specific guidance for franchisees newly into business.

The vast majority of our franchisees operate from modern, welcoming shop front premises making our services more accessible to the client base with the aim of becoming the one stop shop for small businesses. We also look for energetic, dynamic individuals interested not just in being an accountant, but who want to run an accountancy business – concentrating on working on the business not in it.

When contemplating any new business venture, but particularly in these recessionary times, knowing that your business service is in real demand should be a key consideration. You can’t have an article on tax and accountancy without using that well-worn phrase "The only things certain in life are death and taxes" which although hackneyed, proves the point quite nicely about the durability of the accounting profession through good times and bad. As long as a small business continues trading each one must continue to prepare annual accounts and each business owner must continue to have Self Assessment Tax Returns produced and submitted to HM Revenue and Customs.

Indeed, against a backdrop of negative growth across many industries, our innovative franchise bucked the trend, beating the UK’s top ten firms on growth in the latest national league tables. TaxAssist Accountants recorded 12.4% growth in the Accountancy Age Top 50 listings beating the “Big 4” international groups and achieving the fifth highest growth across the whole Top 50.

So, in these lean times, if you are thinking which way you should turn, and which industry might perform well – you could do worse than consider accountancy “Officially the best job in the world”? Who are we to disagree…
