The London Franchise Project, funded by the London Development Agency, is a pilot project which aims to create self-employment in targeted areas of London via the franchise route. Project partners will deliver appropriate business support services to those entrepreneurs wishing to set up a franchise business, assist existing growth businesses within these target areas to use franchising as a model for expansion, and to encourage investment through franchising which satisfies a market demand in key regeneration areas of London. 
LDA is the Mayor’s agency for business and jobs. This role includes being the main funder of business support in London – the LDA manages over £100m of public sector business support funding per annum. New business creation and the successful growth of small businesses is the life blood of any city and the LDA has implemented a new structure for the delivery of Business Start-Up and Micro business support. Franchise as a route for start-up will form a key element of the LDA’s start-up programme and the results of the pilot Franchise Programme will inform the design and development of a pan-London franchise programme, which will be operational from April 2007.
The London Franchise project aims to encourage franchising as a route for business start-up across London . It will have a geographical focus targeting support on specific city growth areas in London. 
Now established as the largest fitness club franchise operation in the UK, énergie Fitness Club's has opened new sites in Hounslow and Hackney with a third due to launch in Fulham at the beginning of September, taking the current network of clubs to 17.
