A day in the life of franchisee Mike Pyne

It has never really been seen as a social science, but a lot of my day revolves around speaking to customers, meeting new contacts and keeping in touch with old ones.
As a business, robertson technologies provides computer support to small and medium sized businesses and its service is founded on plain spoken English and a face-to-face service.
As the franchisee for Fife, I am responsible for finding customers and this means getting out into the local business community and speaking to as many people as possible.
Once customers are on board, my technical engineers handle their day-to-day needs, while I focus on managing their account and making sure they are happy with the way we are working with them.
Most mornings start with a networking meeting. There are regular networking clubs that I attend as well as numerous one-off events and this gives me a great chance to get in front of people and find out how they manage their IT, who provides their support and whether there may be a chance for robertson technologies to offer its services.
After the buzz of meeting people in the flesh, it is so important to follow things up quickly and I try to cement any earlier introductions with follow up emails and telephone calls.
Then there is the daily batch of correspondence to deal with and whether this arrives through the post or over the internet, it needs to be dealt with quickly if I’m to stay on top of it.
robertson technologies works very closely with its customers and so after a quick bite to eat I normally find myself going out to meet clients in their offices and getting a handle on how we can work closer with them and really make their IT sing to their commercial needs.
I also visit a lot of potential clients onsite and going into these various enterprises is hugely inspiring. The local business community is working incredibly hard and seeing the effort and commitment that so many companies put into their business gives me a lot of confidence for the future.
As well as networking and direct marketing through mailshots and telephone calls, I also do a lot of electronic marketing and after visiting existing and potential customers, sometime in the afternoon is normally devoted to checking the wording of our latest online campaign, getting to grips with the mail shot database and working through responses and leads as they come in.
Winning new customers is all about being in the right place at the right time and by growing and nurturing the relationships I have with local businesses, I can make sure robertson technologies springs to mind when companies have a problem with their existing IT support provider or decide to review their arrangements.
Bringing a new customer on board that I have been keeping in touch with over many months is hugely satisfying and this is always a great way to finish the day.
