The Phat Pasty Co - Coming to a doorstep near you!

Kelly and Steve Baker had been looking for an opportunity to give them a better work life balance and a business that they could grow together.
They were amazed to find just the answer on their doorstep when The Phat Pasty Co started daily deliveries to Steve’s office.

Steve said, ‘as soon as I saw the Phat Van, I just knew this was different to the standard snack vans that visited. The Phat Van created a real buzz, with everyone talking about the cute little camper van. The real proof was in the quality of the products, with people visiting the van everyday for either a pasty, sandwich, baguette or a cup of their homemade soup – I just knew that this was a business that was right for us .’

8 weeks on, they took delivery of their orange Phat Van in early January 2008. After a week’s training on a Company Phat Van and a week’s operational support to set up their territory and business the sales came rolling in, achieving profitability in just two weeks.

The business is based from home and operates from 9am – 1.30pm delivering to offices and industry. The Phat Van bakes off handmade traditional Cornish pasties (delivered weekly from Newquay to the franchisee’s home) whilst the franchisee makes homemade sandwiches, baguettes, salads, soups and smoothies to specific recipes to sell each day.

The original idea was conceived by Laura Clark who was looking for a business idea that could fit around her lifestyle as a working mum. Having worked in the restaurant and catering industry all her career, she wanted a business of her own to set up and operate. Supported by her husband, Paul, who has been in franchising for the past fifteen years, they developed a ready-made business.

The franchise benefits from low overheads and set up costs. With an investment of just £25,000 the franchisee can be in business in 8 – 10 weeks. Full training, support, recipes and manuals guides them in every aspect of the business. Targeted profits of circa £40,000 per Phat Van make this a highly successful formula, with the option to grow the business into a management franchise with multiple Phat Vans.

Kelly and Steve now have a second Phat Van on order!
