June saw the third Scottish Franchise Week showcased in Scotland where a number of events were organised to provide information on franchising. One of the gems to emerge from the week was the value to be had of attending an educational event.

As one satisfied workshop delegate commented, “The speakers gave an honest and well-balanced account of the rewards and challenges of running a franchise. A regular topic was the importance of assessing the franchisor and the franchise contract, both extremely important but easily overlooked amid the excitement of starting out. I took away a better understanding of how the relationship between the two parties works in practice and the information needed to assess whether franchising was really for me. It was a very worthwhile day.”

The decision to consider franchising as a route to running a business is an important one. There are many considerations and many different sources of information - the difficulty is knowing where to start.

This is where attending a franchise seminar or workshop can help. Starting a business through franchising will involve a long term commitment and a sizeable investment so it is important that new franchisees go into the process with their eyes open and spend the time and money to ensure that the investment decision is the right one.

Being part of a franchise educational programme is an ideal way to learn more about the industry and hear from franchisees, franchisors, banking and legal professionals all brought together in one location for a real induction into franchising.
