London and the South’s thriving Asian business community is gearing up to celebrate its success, in one of the most eagerly anticipated events of the region’s calendar. The Lloyds TSB Southern Jewel Awards, now in its sixth year, will take place on 4th October 2008 at London Hilton, Park Lane and will honour the most talented individuals in the worlds of business, the media and public life. There are now 200,000 Asian businesses across UK, generating wealth at over three times the national average – and many of these are in London and the South.

Six coveted awards will be announced on the evening, comprising accolades for Professional Excellence, Public Service Excellence, Retail Food & Franchise Excellence, Business & Commerce Excellence, Healthcare & Education Excellence, Entrepreneur Excellence and the prestigious Future Leaders and Lifetime Achievement Jewel Awards. The shortlist includes many rising stars from across London and the South East, which is now home to some of the UK’s brightest Asian talent, including your local nominee. There are now 2000,000 Asian businesses across UK, generating wealth at over three times the national average – and many of these are in London and the South East.

The Entrepreneur Excellence Jewel Award - Mohammad Adil, Chairman Adil Group

Mohammad Adil became the first Asian franchisee of a fast food chain in 1969, his first branch being in Willesden which then spread up to the North of England. Growing by acquisition of restaurants, which he later converted to Burger King Franchisees, he now owns other leading franchisees like KFC and Costa. His recent acquisition of KFC restaurants was valued in excess of £24million. Mr Adil holds a huge portfolio of commercial and residential properties and contributes to the local community through charitable donations, he has received several honorary awards and is held in high regards for his community work both in the UK and Pakistan. His has two sons, Raja, a qualified city lawyer who manages the KFC & Real Estate business and Zahair who manages the Burger King and other businesses.

The event honours the most talented individuals in the worlds of business, the media and public life and Lloyds TSB’s title sponsorship of the Jewel Awards is just one aspect of the bank’s continuing involvement with the UK’s fast growing Asian population.

The bank has established itself at the forefront of banking services for the UK’s Asian community and has developed a unique understanding of its Asian customers.
