It was Friday the 20th of November a cold, wet, windy day. Attendees battled the cruel elements to make it to the seminar in Edinburgh, blowing through the doors to the buzz of likeminded people chatting excitedly.
From start to finish the seminar was a hit! Hosted by the lovely Anna aka “THE franchisebabe” who managed to keep the full house in check.
“What is franchising” “Franchise Opportunities” & “How to evaluate a franchise?” Were the topics that Euan Fraser, from AMO Consulting and Phil Harrison, from the bfa took us through in the morning session.
So… you are on this blog, and I am presuming that you haven’t arrived here accidently while researching the latest football scores or celeb gossip, and that you are, in fact, thinking: what the heck is franchising? Is it right for me? What on earth should I be doing to find the right franchise for me?
Would it be safe to say that you need some help? (Don’t we all?)
In writing this blog, on ‘women and franchising’, I cannot help but wonder if it is a ‘good thing’ that I am writing as a woman. Will I be biased, and some kind of hardened feminist, or will I look at it from a relatively distant standpoint and see objectively if women are suited to franchising? So…with so many people facing redundancy in this big, horrible, nasty financial mess, I cannot help but think franchising could well be part of the solution to today’s recession. OK, we are not super-heroes going about in tights and flowing capes, but I think I can justify my big statement!
I’m sure after a wonderful weekend of “trick or treating” the endless cackle of tiny witches cavorting through our gardens and grunts and groans of 3 ft blood splattered, green and white zombies banging into everything as they “get into character” is still vivid in our minds.
As I closed the door on what felt like the 300th kid to cross over my threshold on Saturday night, it did cross my mind, “it could be fun to work with children!” But something from the back of my mind leapt forward, reminding me of that old saying “never work with children!” mmm…. It did make me wonder though is there a market for it?
